WEBINAR: Current and Emerging Mycotoxins & Plant Toxins in the Spotlight

Regulatory Status and Occurrence Data of Alternaria Toxins, Pyrrolizidine and Tropane Alkaloids and others
Classical mycotoxins such as Aflatoxins, Ochratoxin A and Fusarium toxins have long been known as contaminants of severe toxicological relevance in the food chain. During recent years, these toxins have been complemented by a range of emerging mycotoxins and plant toxins that are coming more and more into the spotlight.
With steadily increased testing frequencies for Alternaria Toxins it becomes obvious that they occur relatively widespread in a range of food commodities with different patterns of the single toxins depending on the type of food matrix.
For Pyrrolizidine and Tropane Alkaloids analytical data over a couple of years reveals a shift in the contamination of various raw food products.
Recognising the growing demand for the analysis of an increasing number of toxins, Eurofins has brought the analysis of mycotoxins and plant toxins into a new era. Two fully automated robotic systems “Robi II” and “Robi III” each provide flexible 24/7 analytical capacity, 400 samples per day, short turnaround times and a high level of quality.
Webinar content
- Short introduction into mycotoxins and plant toxins background and development of testing frequencies
- Regulatory status in the EU
- Occurrence data and development over time for the above-mentioned toxins in food products
- Homogenisation and analytical solutions at Eurofins including fully automated robotic systems

Mareike Rathke
Research Scientist
Eurofins WEJ Contaminants GmbH
Mareike Rathke is a chemist with a varied background in mycotoxin analysis. During her apprenticeship as a laboratory technician and one year working in the measurement evaluation of mycotoxins at Eurofins WEJ Contaminants GmbH, she found her passion for analytical chemistry. After graduating in chemistry (M.Sc.), her curiosity led her to a position as product manager for immunoaffinity columns for aflatoxin analysis at Gold Standard Diagnostics. Since 2024 she is a research scientist at Eurofins WEJ Contaminants GmbH focusing on automation solutions and mycotoxin analysis.
Your benefit
This webinar will give you a comprehensive overview of current and upcoming mycotoxins and plant toxins, their regulatory status and occurrence in raw food materials. Challenges and possibilities in sampling, homogenisation and analysis are outlined. This information will provide valuable support for the development and update of your risk monitoring plans in the area of contaminants.
